For years, Cindy Diggs, managing partner at Holmes, Diggs & Sadler PLLC, had to pass on divorce cases that weren’t very complicated, referring these out to other attorneys and law firms, as her firm’s billing rates tend to be a better fit for larger, more complex cases.
As a solution, in 2010 the firm hired two recent law grads. The firm has hired two more recent graduates since then. Cindy Diggs continues that tradition today, and has hired a new law grad who starts full time this month. Diggs calls these recent grads “baby lawyers,” and she thinks the concept represents the future of her firm, which primarily represents divorce clients.
“Lots of people come to Cindy for family law help, but can’t afford the expertise she provides,” Houston plaintiff lawyer Randy Sorrels says. “So what she has done is chosen to offer herself in a supervisory role over these young lawyers. The client is getting a lawyer who is being supervised and guided by an expert, so it’s the best of all worlds. And it’s a foundation for her to grow her firm.”
