Houston Public Media interviewed attorney Cindy Diggs with Holmes, Diggs & Sadler, in a June 29 segment about the recent Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage.
Diggs said that, despite whether people feel positively or negatively about the ruling, it is likely the most significant Supreme Court decision of this generation, as it opens up the right to marry to an entire group of people for whom this right was previously unavailable.
On Friday alone, the Harris County Clerk’s office began putting the new law into practice by issuing about 50 marriage certificates to newly-eligible couples.
According to Diggs, her law firm and other family lawyers have already dealt with custody issues involving same-sex couples. “Now of course, same-sex couples will be able to marry and they will be able to divorce, whether they were married in this state or in some other state,” Diggs stated.

Four years after their wedding, Glee star Jane Lynch and her clinical psychologist wife Dr. Lara Embry have officially pulled the plug on their marriage, ABC News reported on October 28.
The divorce, which was finalized by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Ralph C. Hofer, requires Lynch to pay her ex half of the royalties she received from a number of entertainment projects, including several seasons of the music comedy-drama T.V. series Glee.
Lynch filed for divorce in July 2013, three years after they were married in Massachusetts.
