What do I do if I don't know anything about my spouse's finances in divorce?

It's often that I have individuals come in that have no idea what's going on with the finances in the household. One party maybe has more financial knowledge than the other, or there is always the spouse that pays the bills and the other spouse hasn't really had to worry about it. But when you get divorced, it's very important to understand all of the assets that you have. And if you don't know what assets your spouse has or all of the assets that make up the community estate or the marital estate, we can ask for information related to those assets in what's called discovery. And we can ask questions to the other spouse. We can ask for specific documents. And usually we ask for wide variety of those documents and other information so that we make sure we're covering any assets that may exist. So if you don't know, we can find it out.
